The Monastery of St. Benedict is located in Largo de São Bento, in the center of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It is one of the historical buildings of the city, being its architecture is inspired by the tradition GERMANIC ECLECTIC and its structure was created by the German architect Richard Berndl. The internal decor was in charge of the Benedictine Dutch monk D. Adelbert Gresnicht, who arrived in Brazil in 1913 specifically for this duty.
We had a field trip to Center of São paulo. We visited a lot of places but the one that I most liked was the Cathedral. It´s so beautiful! It stays in the Praça da Sé. It began in 1589 when the people decided to build a mother church for the small town Sao paulo de Piratininga. The old church was demolished and replaced by a new one, built in Baroque style, completed around 1764. Work began in 1913 on the site of the demolished colonial cathedral. The architect in charge was the German Maximilian Emil Hehl, who designed a huge church in eclectic style.
